Anaphora Handbags is a company created out of a love for handbags by two UK designers and academics with strong backgrounds in fashion. Born in 2008 with the first collection arriving in the September, Anaphora bags are now stocked in 5 independent boutiques and are currently sold in the Fashion & Textile Museum, London.
Anaphora is a brand that appeals to a woman who loves good quality fashion and accessories, with a character that is timeless, designing classics that will stand the test of time.
Much of the design inspiration for Anaphora handbags comes from studying the details and shapes of vintage handbags, capturing a bygone time when a quality ‘piece’ was something to be treasured and passed from mother to daughter as an heirloom.
Recently Anaphora was spotted by a boutique in New York who quoted the designs as being ‘’an emerging trend in Europe”, this has led to discussions for the first New York stockist for Anaphora.
Anaphora handbags were featured alongside Mulberry and Osprey by Hampshire Preview magazine in November 2008. This is a publication distributed to all homes in Hampshire within high socio-economic groups.
www.anaphora.co.uk acts as a showroom for Anaphora and has received very positive reactions from consumers and stockists alike. Features such as the street photography and designers blog add to the personal nature of the designers focus on individuality.
Both designers are currently undertaking Doctorate study relating closely to handbags and handbag design. The psychology of relationships that are formed with handbags and emotional reactions to touch, feel and colour are exciting areas of exploration and provide inspirational results invaluable to designers who wish to appeal to a discerning market.
The future aim for Anaphora is to become a recognised brand known for it’s high quality and considered handbag design. Aspirational stockists are independent boutiques, larger stores such as John Lewis, Harrods, Selfridges & Harvey Nichols.
Future plans for the Anaphora brand involve capturing the art of the workers who craft the handbags, inviting them to provide narrative based on their dreams and aspirations. This will form an intrinsic part of the design process.
